ZyXEL Communications, a leading provider of solutions for secure broadband networking and Internet access, looks set to add to its already sterling reputation with the release of its new high-performance security gateway, the USG40HE.
The innovative piece of hardware is aimed at catering for the modern 'smart' home, a phenomenon that has been driven by a greater dependence on online services from many households.
With greater demand comes a greater need for security
With the Internet of Things (IoT) having an ever-increasing grip on the lives of individuals all over the country, there is the potential for a noticeably increased reliance on cloud-based access and services.
The very nature of these services means more data being transmitted across cyberspace, which subsequently heightens the need for adequate security.
Many businesses benefit from state-of-the-art security products to ensure the safety of their data and, according to ZyXEL, there is no need for everyday users to miss out on the same level of protection.
The company claims the USG40HE offers business-class cyber protection to smart homes, coming with features such as home surveillance and automation.
Other features include a fibre-speed firewall throughput, as well as a combination of security services, including anti-virus (AV),intrusion detection and protection (IDP), anti-spam and content filtering, all of which are designed to secure household networks from any malicious intrusions.
Steven Joe, executive vice president for channel business for Americas at ZyXEL, said: "Smart homes score high on efficiency and convenience but they also leave families exposed to cyber theft and crime by anyone with a laptop and Wi-Fi connection.
"The USG40HE will give home users the peace of mind that their families are protected by the same security protection that ZyXEL is known to offer big businesses."
ZyXEL building on award-winning start to the year
It has already been a successful start to the year for ZyXEL, having seen its multi-fibre 802.11ac gateway, the FMG3586, named as an Innovations 2015 Design and Engineering Honoree at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in its Smart Home category at the start of January.
It is the third consecutive year in which ZyXEL has received the CES Innovations Honoree award, with the FMG3586 managing to impress through a number of design features, including a small form-factor pluggable (SFP) WAN interface for multiple fibre connectivity options, including Active Fibre, GPON and EPON.
It also includes a premium AC2000 Wi-Fi router with 4x4 MU-MIMO wireless technology, which enables optimal performance when running high-bandwidth applications such as HD video streaming.
That comes along with two voice ports, two USB ports, six gigabit Ethernet ports and TR069 management support, all combine to create a powerful multi-service gateway for gigabit smart homes.
