Global networking company NetGear released a new range of products that it claims will help to improve the speed, performance and capabilities of products designed for small or medium-sized businesses.
New products include the Dual Band High Powered 802.11n Weatherproof Outdoor Access Point (WND930) and the Dual Band 802.11ac Wireless Access Point (WAC120).
Dual Band High Powered 802.11n Weatherproof Outdoor Access Point (WND930)
This great new product allows networks to extend their reach beyond fixed walls to provide connectivity to outdoor environments, making it an ideal solution for hotels, resorts, schools and healthcare facilities, while also providing high-capacity outdoor wireless coverage for parks, playing fields and pool areas.
The new product is a dual band concurrent 802.11n outdoor access point capable of providing as much as 500 mW of RF output power, which can then be combined with a high gain internal antenna to boost coverage even further.
Although many users will undoubtedly take the view that this technology makes the use of Power over Ethernet inch closer to the scrap heap of redundancy, it does still use it as a source of power.
The WND930 is designed for easy and simple setup, featuring wall and pole mounting kits that enable more flexible deployment options. It also contains an industrial-grade IP-67 enclosure, which contains an embedded heater that allows it to operate normally when temperatures dip below freezing.

Meanwhile this product is ideal for helping to deliver high performance, next-generation WiFi for any number of small business environments and is also ideal for users looking to implement one or two access points in the office or at any other branch location, connecting laptops, smartphones, VoIP phones and even surveillance cameras.
Dual band concurrent operation at 2.4GHz and 5GHz is also supported, with a combined throughput of as much as 1.2 Gbps. That speed is as much as four times as high as the previous generation of 802.11n networks, ensuring better coverage and near-comprehensive security features.
Updated products
A number of existing products have also been given updates, featuring powerful new processors helping them to perform at an even higher level than before.
These include the ProSAFE® 8-Port Gigabit VPN Firewall (FVS318G-200), ProSAFE 4-Port Dual WAN Gigabit Firewall with SSL and IPsec VPN (FVS336G-300) and ReadyNAS® 2120 Series Network Attached Storage (RN2120-200).
All of the new and updated products offer easy-to-deploy access, security and storage for customers and SMBs, hospitality and healthcare sites.
Peter Newton, senior director of product management for NETGEAR’s Commercial Business Unit, said: “We’re pleased to complement our already extensive business solution portfolio with our first outdoor wireless access point as well as our first access point using dual band 802.11ac WiFi, the next generation in wireless technology.
“We’ve also refreshed two of our popular firewalls and a rack-mount ReadyNAS storage appliance with new, more powerful processors to provide significantly improved performance but with the same lower total cost of ownership.”
He added that the company believed its products would help it become an industry leader in terms of capabilities, performance, reliability and even warranty coverage, allowing it to become all the more popular with resellers and system integrators looking to offer high-value solutions to business customers.
