A new smart managed switching device designed especially for the needs of small to medium-sized businesses (SMBs) is being launched by networking device manufacturer Netgear.
The company has announced the launch of its new XS712Tv2 12-Port 10-Gigabit Ethernet Smart Managed Pro Switch, a second-generation system developed for use by smaller workgroups that require a reliably high bandwidth for sharing, collaborating, editing and publishing high-density content, including 4K videos or animations.
It addresses the causes of bandwidth bottlenecks by incorporating cost-effective 10GBASE-T connectivity, IPv6 management and comprehensive L2+/Layer 3 Lite features, as well as a non-blocking 240Gbps fabric that provides full duplex 10Gbps connectivity across all 12 ports with no congestion.
The device also combines configurable L2 network features such as VLANs, Rapid Spanning Tree, IGMP Snooping and Querier, and IGMP Fast Leave with advanced smart switching capabilities including IPv4/IPv6 Layer 3 static routing, DiffServ QoS policies, LACP link aggregation, broadcast control and protection against denial-of-service-based cyber attacks.
As such, the XS712Tv2 is able to support businesses in carrying out virtualisation, converged networking, cloud access and mobility initiatives, with its browser-based management interface allowing for user-friendly network configuration and its green Ethernet features meaning that the power draw is minimised.
Users can also benefit from advanced VLAN support to allow for better network segmentation, plus rate limiting and priority queuing capabilities to ensure that bandwidth is always allocated in the most efficient way.
Richard Jonker, vice president of product line management for SMB products at Netgear, said: "We offer the broadest selection of smart managed switches in the industry, and this new 12-port model further expands the options available to SMB network managers so they can easily install the most cost-effective solution for their needs, with headroom to grow.
"Even small businesses are experimenting with virtualisation, cloud-based services and applications like video streaming, IP surveillance and voice over IP. SMB networks need to support increasingly higher speeds and improved performance to keep operations humming along."
This is the latest addition to the company's Standalone Smart Managed Pro product family, all of which have been specially developed to support converged networks that carry voice, video and data on a single platform.
The launch of the new 12-port device means that Smart Managed Pro 10-Gigabit Ethernet Switches are now available across a range of of port densities, with 48-port options for medium-sized networks and eight-port solutions for small businesses. Each prioritises the delivery of optimal network efficiency, operational cost savings and ease of management - all key priorities for SMB networks.
Moreover, Netgear notes that these devices can also be used as aggregation or access switches by larger organisations by connecting to a 10-Gigabit Netgear Fully Managed Switch on one end and extending the 10 Gigabit connection to the edge.
