NetGear releases ReadyNAS 3138 Storage for Small and Medium-Sized Businesses

Posted on

Global networking specialist NetGear has released the latest instalment in its business-class ReadyNAS Rackmount Series of high-performance Network Attached Storage (NAS) appliances.

The ReadyNAS 3138 comes with a number of new features, mainly aimed at helping small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) achieve the highest possible level of data protection and storage.

The new model is a 1U rack mount form factor and four-bay NAS appliance that boasts storage space of up to 32TB.

It also contains a faster upgraded quad-core Intel processor capable of 2.4GHz of processing power, along with 4GB of DRAM, which is twice as large as the previous model.

Douglas Cheung, senior product line manager for NETGEAR Storage, said: “Data availability and integrity are the top priorities of any business today.

“ReadyNAS 3138 gives businesses an industry-leading data protection solution, with exceptional performance, at an attractive price point. This makes ReadyNAS 3138 the ideal choice for storage for any growing business.”

Five levels of protection

Other features of the new model include four Gigabit Ethernet ports, three USB ports and two eSATA ports, providing users with a rich variety of network storage options.

More importantly, it also runs the latest version of NetGear's ReadyNAS operating system, which boasts as many as five levels of complete and inclusive data protection.

These include RAID protection against hard drive failure, real-time anti-virus, versioning with hourly snapshots against human error, bitrot protection against silent data corruption, and a cloud-managed disaster recovery system the company claims to be easier than ever to set up.

Professor Robert Kolmhofer, head of the Department of Secure Information Systems at the University of Applied Sciences, Upper Austria, Campus Hagenberg, said the company is particularly proud of its latest release.

He said: "The performance of the ReadyNAS 3138 will make this a seamless experience and increase user productivity, especially when dealing with large amounts of data,

"We are happy about the NetGear ‘5 levels of protection’ approach, in particular the snapshot feature and bitrot protection, to protect our critical files in a way that wasn't achievable before with an SMB NAS product."

The new ReadyNAS 3138 is available diskless (RN3138) or with four 2TB, 3TB, or 4TB drives (RN31842E, RN31843E, RN31844E), meaning it is likely to appeal to the storage needs of any SMB.

The latest release comes hot on the heels of NetGear's ProSAFE WAC730 Business 3x3 Dual Band Wireless-AC Access Point and ProSAFE WAC720 Business 2x2 Dual Band Wireless-AC Access Point.
