Global networking specialist NetGear has released two new ProSAFE 10Gigabit switching platforms that it hopes will offer industry-first capabilities for small- and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) looking to scale their Wave 2 Wireless-AC networks.
The ProSAFE M4200 Managed Intelligent Edge Series aims to offer the first ever Power-over-Ethernet (PoE+) 8x2.5Gigabit and 2x10Gigabit distribution switch for Wave 2 Wireless-AC Access Points.
Featuring fully non-blocking capabilities, the company claims this is a product that is easier to deploy and more cost-effective than other market alternatives.
The M4200-10MG-PoE+ Managed Switch utilises a design that aims to optimise the installation of Wave 2 Wireless-AC access points, including eight full power PoE+ and multi-speed 1G, 2.5G ports for 100-meter legacy cable runs.
That is combined with two 10G uplinks, which enables full non-blocking deployment of eight Wave 2 Wireless-AC access points. Two of the eight ports also support 5G speeds.
NetGear's Multi-Gigabit Ethernet is compatible with managed solutions from a majority of wireless and switching vendors.
The product is the only one to offer 8x2.5G to the access point with 240W PoE currently on the market, as well as 2x10G line-rate aggregation to the wiring closet.
As well as being plenum rated, it features a slim design along with mounting accessories that enable switch placement, optimising access point placement and cabling efficiency.
Matthias Machowinski, senior research director for enterprise networks and video at IHS Technology, said: “We’ve seen tremendous interest in next-generation 802.11ac Wave 2 WiFi access point technology, but companies are concerned about the ability of their wired infrastructure to keep up with the higher throughput enabled by 802.11ac Wave 2.
"NETGEAR’s introduction of new aggregation switches with 2.5G to the access points and line-rate 10G to the wiring closet enables end-user organizations to cost-effectively upgrade bandwidth and avoid creating new bottlenecks.”
Meanwhile, the ProSAFE M4300 Managed Intelligent Edge Series is a unique stackable platform with edge-to-core 10Gigabit stacking from 24-port 1G to 48-port 10G. This product also includes full provisioning for PoE+.
Other solutions aimed at SMBs often do not offer simple stacking through 10G ports, subsequently requiring costly stacking kits.
SDN support is included in both lines of products, enabling them to easily deploy resilient unified 10Gigabit (10G) wired and wireless network capabilities.
The M4300 Series comes with 10G and 1G models in with a variety of form factors and PoE+ full provisioning.
All 10G ports are independent and 1G backward-compatible, allowing for progressive transition to 10G speeds.
