Nexans is poised to roll out its subsea cabling solution to the new super complex at the heart of the future development of the Nasr oil field, off the coast from Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The company will provide high voltage power cables and infield cables, mainly due to the award of a €90 million (£66.48 million) contract by the EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) contractor, Hyundai Heavy Industries Co.Ltd (HHI).
HHI is already undertaking engineering, procurement, construction, installation and commissioning work for the new project, which includes a gas treatment platform, a separation platform and an accommodation platform.
Nexans is subsequently supplying HHI with 132 kV XLPE insulated three-core subsea power cables, which contains three fibre optic elements, as well as 11 kV XLPE insulated three-core infield cables, also incorporating three fibre optic elements.
The Nasr cables will be manufactured at Nexans' specialised facility in Halden Norway, before being transferred to the oil field, which is located approximately 130 km northwest of Abu Dhabi City in UAE - the world's seventh largest oil producing country.
Dirk Steinbrink, Nexans senior executive vice president High Voltage & Underwater Cables, said: "Winning this very significant order for the Nasr project continues our current growth in subsea power cable projects. It also demonstrates the broad scope of our offering for the oil and gas industry with high technology power cables and umbilicals."
Nexans already prides itself on supplying the most extensive range of cabling solutions for customers in a wide range of industries across the world.
The company claims its strategy is based on continuous innovation in products, solutions and services, employee development, customer training, as well as the implementation of safe and environmentally-friendly industrial processes.
Nexans is also an active member of Europacable, the European Association of Wire & Cable Manufacturers, and a signatory of the Europacable Industry Charter, which is focused on its members' commitment to developing ethical, sustainable and high-quality cables.
It also has an impressive international reach, having recently announced a project to deliver Repeatered Optical Cables for the Nigeria-Cameroon Submarine Cable System (NCSCSC), supplying around 1,100 km of the cabling and associated accessories for the project.
Once completed, the project will deliver broadband to users in both countries by the end of 2015, with the subsea cable system set to boast a capacity of 12.8 Tbps.
