NetGear has announced the release of another product in its HD Camera System, building on the release of its last Arlo Q camera, which contained a number of great features for users.
Previous models in the Arlo cameras were mainly geared towards homeowners looking for a DIY security system, but the new Q Plus will aim to satisfy the needs of small or medium businesses (SMBs).
The move means companies will now be able easily install a camera system that can be placed wherever it is required. All that's needed is an Ethernet connection.
The preceding model including two-way audio, built-in night vision, rolling seven days of free cloud storage for video recordings, and 1080p HD video, although this latest model now offers the added bonus of Power over Ethernet (PoE) capabilities, as well as a MicroSD card slot for making recordings in the event of a network failure.
The inclusion of PoE means the new device can be connected with existing network infrastructure through the right PoE switches being implemented.
It does not even need to be a switch manufactured by NetGear, although the brand does have an extensive line-up of ProSAFE PoE/PoE+ switches.
Cutting-edge features
The extensive features that come with the Arlo Q allow it to carry out a number of impressive tasks. The inclusion of night vision allows it to reveal details of the surroundings even in complete darkness.
Communication between employees in various areas of the workplace is made easy by the use of two-way audio, while users can also customise sound and motion alerts that are capable of sending alerts when motion or sounds trigger the cameras.
Those purchasing Arlo Q Plus will also receive a free basic video cloud storage plan, which is a solution that stores videos in the cloud for a week at no extra cost.
However, for an additional fee, users can be a part of the Continuous Video Recording Plan (CVR plan), which takes everything recorded by the camera and uploads it to the cloud, allowing users to easily access their content without having to worry about any storage issues.
It is worth bearing in mind that while the Q Plus is designed for indoor usage, it can be combined with Arlo’s wire-free camera system, enabling users to benefit from a complete camera security system.
NetGear offered users a first look at the new line-up of cameras at the recent ISC West tradeshow, held earlier this month, attracting the attention of security installers, many of whom were treated to demonstrations of Arlo products and other innovative PoE solutions aimed at small businesses and smart homes.
