NetGear has long been a brand associated with creating high quality products aimed at offering solutions to the most pressing problems relating to cable management and network connectivity.
The modern network is constantly evolving, both in the home and in the workplace, creating a number of headaches for consumers and IT departments alike.
A greater number of devices means that many networks have now become flooded and overwhelmed with wiring, even in the age of WiFi.
Keeping order
Ensuring your network remains orderly and is neatly managed is an often underrated, yet crucial measure to keeping your system functioning to the full.
While the right choice in hardware will help, things do occasionally go wrong, so it is important that you do not leave yourself at a possible disadvantage.
For instance, it becomes more difficult to identify problems within your network if you have to sift through a mess of cables, a process that can waste valuable time.
NetGear is a company that has prided itself on keeping up with the pace of advances in network technology and claims to have found a solution to managing increasingly crowded systems.
The ProSAFE family of Click Switches were unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas earlier this month.
Utilising a flexible 1-2-3-4 Click mounting system, this new range of devices are Gigabit Ethernet switches with an industry-first, bracket mounting system that allow them to be easily located where you need them – under a table or on the wall. The flexible mounting bracket enables vertical or horizontal orientation of ports. To install just mount the bracket onto a wall or desk and "Click" the switch into the bracket.
Companies can find a solution that is right for the needs of their particular network, with Click Switches coming in either 8- or 16-Gigabit port configurations.
Wires can be organised, cables can be secured, while bulky power adapters are eliminated, all in combination with a slim design and internal power supply
Using innovation to excel
NetGear claims that this new product has helped it to re-imagine the network switch, with an innovative mounting system offering the flexibility to place the Click Switch in locations where other switches cannot reach.
It also goes beyond the realms of plug n' play connectivity with ProSAFE Plus Switch networking features, enabling businesses to segment their network VLANs or prioritise voice and video traffic with quality of service.
With concepts such as video conferencing and voice over internet protocol playing an increasingly important role in the modern workplace such capabilities could be crucial.
Everything is connected
Those may not be the only trends to have an impact on businesses over the course of the next few years, with the Internet of Things (IoT) also taking centre stage at CES.
The concept of every device in the office being connected is one that is sure to lead to more complicated networks, more wires, more pieces of hardware, and a greater need to maintain order.
Peter Newton, senior director of product management of NetGear’s Commercial Business believes that the latest series of ProSAFE Click Switches will leave businesses in a perfect position to keep up with the demands that will come with a more advanced office.
“This is a must-have product for today’s Internet of Things home with its myriad connected devices. We put a lot of thought into the design of the ProSAFE Click Switch to make it extraordinarily flexible to meet your needs in the office as well as at home.
“While we can’t yet completely eliminate all cords from your home entertainment center or wiring closet, our Click Switches tame the ugly rat’s nest of cabling behind the cabinet. Their innovative features and thoughtful design, combined with our industry-leading ProSAFE warranty policy, offer an unbeatable value for your connected network.”
An added bonus to the 8-port version of the Click Switch is the fact that it comes with two USB ports, which allows for quick and easy charging of tablets, smartphones, and other devices.
