How TE Connectivity has thrived in the aerospace boom (and is continuing to innovate)

Posted by Feature on

The aerospace industry is one that has continued to grow over the last few years, with its success helping to inspire the innovation of a number of new and exciting products.

Confidence in aerospace has soared since 2013, with a recent poll by the Performance Review Institute stating that some 90 per cent of respondents feel confident about the long-term future of the aerospace industry.

Greater level of confidence

That is something of an improvement on the previous year, which saw 87 per cent respond positively, while that number was 83 per cent and 73 per cent in 2012 and 2010 respectively.

Joe Pinto, executive vice president and chief operating officer at the Performance Review Institute, said: "There are many contributing factors to this continued and increasingly positive attitude towards the future of the industry, and it seems that the data supports it.

"The next few decades are anticipated to generate soaring demand for new airplanes; one recent projection indicates nearly 37,000 aircraft, valued at $5.2 trillion (£4.08 trillion), will be needed by 2033. This is good news for all those involved in the aerospace manufacturing and special processes field."

New technology

The greater demand outlined by Mr Pinto is subsequently set to lead to a greater demand for new and innovative technology, particularly given the increasing role being played by data and staying connected.

One firm to not only recognise this trend, but also take advantage, is TE Connectivity. The company has recently released a number of cutting-edge products aimed at benefiting various parties within the aerospace industry.

For instance, it claims its CeeLok FAS-X connector is the ideal solution for meeting aerospace and military industry demand for 10-gigabyte-per-second connectivity, while also appealing to other high-speed protocols such as IEEE 1394b I/O, Fibre Channel networks, as well and Modular D38999, which allows for high performance in harsh environments.

Steady and reliable

While achieving the highest level of performance is hugely important when creating technology for the aerospace industry, so too is reliability.

Rugged reliability is a part of the CeeLok FAS-X, as too is signal integrity to support today's high-speed protocols and fast protocols of the future, priming systems for future upgrades.

In terms of resistance to extreme environments, this new product also boasts an operating range of minus 60 Celsius to 200 Celsius, along with moisture and corrosion resistance.

Latest addition to aerospace range

It is just the latest release for TE Connectivity, which last year unveiled a range of ruggedised, next-generation, high-speed connectivity solutions at the Paris Air Show designed to reduce SWaP while increasing bandwidth for aerospace electronics.
