Netgear picks up three honours in 2017 CES awards

Posted on

Networking supplier Netgear has received honours for three of its products in the 2017 CES Best of Innovation awards ahead of the annual tech showcase in January.

CES is one of the largest trade shows in the industry, and in 2017 will be taking place from January 5th to 8th in Las Vegas, where Netgear's award-winning innovations will be featured. Organised by the Consumer Technology Association (CTA), the Innovation Awards have been recognising excellence in this sector since 1976.

Products chosen for the honours - which are awarded across 28 categories - reflect innovative design and cutting-edge engineering in the consumer electronics market, Netgear noted.

Among the devices being recognised are the Nighthawk X10 Smart Wi-Fi Router, which Netgear claims is the world's fastest router aimed at the home market. With technology such as Plex Media Server and next-generation high-speed 802.11ad Wi-Fi, the device is capable of delivering combined wireless speeds of up to 7.2Gbps, making it optimised for high-bandwidth services such as 4K media streaming, virtual reality and instant downloads.

Netgear has also been praised for its Orbi Wi-Fi system, which uses the world’s first mesh networking system to leverage Tri-band Wi-Fi. This has the unique capability of providing a dedicated wireless channel between the Orbi router and each Orbi satellite, allowing users to extend the reach of their Wi-Fi to every part of their home or small office, while still enjoying speeds of up to 3Gbps.

The third Netgear product to receive recognition in the 2017 CES Innovation Awards is its Arlo Pro Wire-Free HD Security Camera, which includes features such as a two-way audio, 100+ decibel siren, and the first and only weatherproof, wire-free security camera with an ultra-wide 130-degree field of view.

David Henry, senior vice-president of home networking products for Netgear, said: "Product innovation is our core mission so we’re thrilled to be recognised again by the CTA for this focus."

He added: "It's especially cool that our honorees this year include our debut tri-band mesh networking system, Orbi, along with our latest security camera system, Arlo Pro. The cherry on the sundae is that our Nighthawk X10 router is named a 'Best of Innovation Awards' as we believe it truly is the most full-featured and best-engineered router in the market today."

The CES Innovation Awards are judged by a panel of independent industrial designers, independent engineers, and members of the trade media. Criteria products are assessed on include their engineering, aesthetic and design qualities, as well as their user value, unique/novel features, and how the design and innovation of the product directly compares to other products in the marketplace.
