Award-winning Nexans continues to flourish in 2015

Posted on

It has been a busy start to the year for Nexans, with several high-profile developments giving it the perfect platform on which to build further growth throughout 2015.

The company aims to bring energy to life by way of an extensive range of cables and cabling solutions that deliver enhanced levels of performance for customers in a wide range of industries all over the world.

Its products cover four main areas of business, including power transmission and distribution, energy resources, transportation and construction.

Scooping awards

2014 was a superb year for Nexans, with the company claiming 'Best Cabling Vendor of the year' at the Network Innovation Awards 2014 and the Network World Middle East Awards 2014 for a second consecutive year.

And 2015 looks to have begun in a similar vein, with the firm named as 'Best physical infrastructure vendor' at the prestigious Reseller Middle East Hot 50 Awards held in Dubai.

The awards, which are into their third year, aim to recognise and honour the 50 companies that have excelled throughout the year across a number of categories.

Brands named in the top 50 range from stakeholders of the channel ecosystem, through to distributors, resellers and system integrators, as well as vendors themselves.

Upon receiving the award, Tarek Helmy, regional director in Gulf and Middle East, South & East Africa of Nexans Cabling Solutions, said: "We are honoured to be chosen by the editorial team of Reseller Middle East for this award. Nexans has always been striving for excellence with its continuous investment in research and development to bring the most innovative cabling solutions to the market.

"This award is also a recognition of our team's dedication to our customers and partners in providing only the highest level of expertise, excellence, customer service and support. We thank Reseller Middle East for this top honour."

Reputation bringing new business

The latest award for Nexans coincides with the firm being handed a number of high-profile contracts, covering a wide range of industries.

A busy January saw Nexans named as the supplier for cables and services to STX France as part of the building of a new ship, Oasis 3.

The deal will see Nexans supply 5,000 km of cable for the construction of the ship, which, when completed, will be the largest cruise vessel in the world, accommodating 2,744 passengers and 1,197 crew members.

Products set to be included in the ship's construction include the firm's full range of Shiplink halogen-free products including power, control, instrumentation and Ethernet cables.

STX France is also set to include high-performance fire-resistant cabling, which will aim to maintain circuit integrity in the event of fire.

Not only will Nexans supply cables to the construction of the ship itself, but it will also extend its products to subcontractors working on the project, which will serve as further testament to the company's ability to handle projects within the shipbuilding industry.

Under the sea

Whereas such success would maybe see many other companies rest on their laurels, Nexans seems determined to expand even further over the course of the coming months.

February has already seen the company claim one the most significant contracts in its history, supplying subsea power cables for the 1.4GW Norway-Germany high voltage direct current (HVDC) interconnector, NordLink.

The €500 million (£370.68 million) deal will see Nexans design, manufacture, and install two 525kV cable subsystems for the link, which will run from Tonstad, Norway to Schleswig-Holstein, Germany.

Covering a distance of 700 km, the cable subsea systems will be installed off the coast of Norway and Denmark, but will still be used to help Germany export surplus levels of renewable energy to Norway, which will return the favour with hydroelectric power.

The idea will be that the exchange will raise the security of power supply in both the countries, while also promoting the use of renewable energy.

It promises be a challenge for the company, with work on the project set to be carried out at depths of 450m, ahead of a 2019 completion date.

Backing for the project is set to come from German bank KfW, Statnett, and TenneT.

Nexans senior executive vice-president for high voltage & underwater cables Dirk Steinbrink said: "The NordLink project will be Nexans' largest subsea power cable contract to date in terms of length and value and we look forward to continuing our close working relationship with TennetT, KfW, and Statnett on this important project.

"We are excited to be involved in the Nord.Link which is a further step towards a complete integration of the European power grid."
