Cabling and systems specialist Draka has announced it has joined cross-industry group HDBaseT Alliance, in a move that will allow it to certify all of its HDBaseT products for compliance and ensure interoperability among current and future products.
HDBaseT Alliance aims to promote, advance and standardise HD BaseT for the transmission of uncompressed ultra-high-definition multimedia content for both commercial and home users.
The overall goal is to advance and promote the name of HDBaseT as a global standard for ultra-high definition digital connectivity.
Membership will allow Draka an opportunity to play a decisive role in helping to define the future of how media is transmitted and communicated, while also helping to drive the innovation required to develop the quality of HDBaseT cables.
HDBaseT allows for the use of a single cable to replace multiple cables and connectors within corporate settings.
At the forefront is 5Play, which helps to converge uncompressed ultra-HD digital audio & video, 100BaseT Ethernet, USB 2.0, as well as up to 100 Watts of power over cable and a number of control signals, all through one single cable.
Product Manager for UC Connect, Lee Stokes, said: “As part of the Prysmian Group, the world’s leading cable manufacturer, Draka welcomes the opportunity to embrace standardised performance expectations for its HD cable products. Being a member of the HDBaseT Alliance will enable Draka to certify all of its UC Connect HD products to these internationally recognised performance criteria.”
Parent company Prysmian growing in influence
It is the latest impressive episode for Draka and its parent company Prysmian, which continues see its influence on the global industry increase.
In December 2015, Prysmian signed an agreement to increase its stake in Oman Cables Industry to around 51 per cent.
The terms of that agreement saw the group take an additional 16 per cent stake for around €100 million.
At the time, Prysmian’s Group chief executive officer, Valerio Battista, said: “We consider our investment in Oman Cables Industry of strategic importance to our presence in the Middle East region.
“We believe that the company has already demonstrated to be able to succeed in the market and it is now well positioned to seize new growth opportunities. As the main shareholders, we will be delighted to keep supporting the company, also by leveraging on our capabilities as worldwide leader in the cable industry”.
The growth for Draka, and the rest of the group, shows little sign of easing any time soon.
